Exzellenz, the official title for "Ambassador" in the German language, recalls vintner Kathryn Hall's role as U. S. Ambassador to Austria from 1997 until 2001. The HALL "Exzellenz" is created expressly to showcase our prized Sacrashe vineyard hidden atop the eastern ridge of the Vaca mountain range in Rutherford. With extremely limiting, volcanic tuff soils and gentle sloping aspects, our Sacrashe vineyard is always rich, dense, earthy and opulent possessing a purity of focus and pronounced power. The 2007 HALL "Exzellenz" Sacrashe Vineyard, Rutherford Red Wine is blackish purple in color and surges with deep, bold flavors of black cherry jam, black spice and dark chocolate through muscular tannins. As big as this wine is, the texture is amazingly pure and supple, the archetypal iron fist in a velvet glove. Expect the 2009 HALL "Exzellenz" Sacrashe Vineyard, Rutherford Red Wine to gain even greater complexity over the next 20 years.
